No weapons program in history demanded more from the men who served it than the B-29 Superfortress. The giant, seemingly perfect planes appeared to devastate Japan with impunity at low cost. The true story was horrifying. B-29 crews suffered wholesale death in hurry-up testing programs, bombed at dead-low altitudes without guns in the face of suicide attacks, and suffered unspeakable torture as P.O.W.s.

A native of Vernon, BC, Darby Mills began to the top of Canadian rock's most recognizeable voices in the mid 70's, doing mostly what she termed 'BG's (background vocals), and then fronted the Vancouver group Steelback for a short period prior to their sole album in 1981…

The Dregs - Unsung Heroes
Vinyl | LP Cover (1:1) | FLAC + cue | 24bit/96kHz & 16bit/44kHz | 900mb
Mastered At Sterling Sound By George Marino
Label: Arista/AL 9548 | Release: 1981 | Genre: Progressive-Fusion

Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection.
In the early '80s the blight of commercialitis had severely degraded the quality of progressive music being created. There are still many gems from that era. Unsung Heroes isn't necessarily one of them yet a fine, and imperfect album all the same. The Dregs dropped the "Dixie" from their name in an attempt to reach a broader audience. I wonder how many of you out there haven't checked this band out because of the "Dixie"?

Tampa Red's influential later recordings for RCA Victor (1945-53) have never been officially reissued on CD and rarely on LP, yet are a crucial element in the post-war blues canon. Many of his songs were covered by B. B. King, Muddy Waters and other top bluesmen. They feature the majestic piano of latter-day Elmore James sideman, Johnny Jones and include the harmonica of Big Walter 'Shakey' Horton and Sonny Boy Williamson II. There are four previously unissued tracks but none are available on authorised CD, not even on OOC releases.

This second volume digs that bit deeper into the early days of recorded country blues and sheds light on other mysterious figures, many of whose contribution to the blues is easily overlooked. None more so than Sylvester Weaver who was the first artist to record a blues instrumental and whose featured ‘Guitar Rag’ shows off his slide-guitar brilliance which was much imitated by other players. Likewise Ramblin’ Thomas from Louisiana was famed for his bottleneck guitar playing and truly makes his guitar weep on his homesick lament ‘Poor Boy Blues’.

Worlds collide here in "Road Sick Eyes." Mark Knight and the Unsung Heroes bring ballads, blues rock, and good old guitar rock to a world where rock and roll dreams and the desire to live full lives face off against the dangers of domestic life. Weekend warriors have to face the doldrums of daily living and this subject invites the range of Knight's vocals to join the multifaceted guitar work that ranges from post-Allman Brothers licks to searing solos that try to capture the angst of dreams and lives gone mundane. Just as choices haunt the people in the songs, the music will haunt you in the best way possible.
