According to the composer, the five works on David Lang's 2003 recording Child constitute an "attempt to examine certain experiences as I remember (and misremember) them from my childhood. Each individual movement is in some way a memory of how I learned to do something." For this recording, Lang gathered the separately commissioned but closely affined pieces into a suite for a varied ensemble of winds, strings, piano, and percussion, presented here by the Italian chamber ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi.

Drummer Pat Mastelotto and bassist Tony Levin must rank as two of rock’s busiest musicians. They’re both members of King Crimson, while Levin is also a prolific session musician and a regular in Peter Gabriel’s band, and Mastelotto’s projects include O.R.k. and Komara. Their trio is completed by guitarist Markus Reuter. "Prog Noir" features 10 new tracks, running the gamut from intricate prog, to jazz fusion, to lean atmospheric rockers, all performed impeccably by the group with their usual sophisticated twist.

With riveting performances by the modern prog-rock legends Stick Men – Tony Levin, Markus Reuter and Pat Mastelotto – , "Prog Noir" is ambitious, achieving and immediately essential. Cinematic themes, towering grooves and intricate arrangements are all on tap, and shower down in abundance. Proving conclusively that the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts, this herculean effort exceeds any perceived limitations of the trio format – satisfying even the most devout and demanding of listeners.

"Stick It In Your Ear" is the solo and recording debut of Paul Laine (ex: Danger Danger), originally released in 1990, one of the best, and most overlooked, albums of the early '90s melodic rock genre. "Stick It In Your Ear" is a perfect example of the melodic rock sound at the end of the '80s. You can hear the influence of classic AOR bands like Journey and Loverboy as well as the hair metal sound of Poison and Winger, and considered by both press and fans of the genre a classic AOR album and one of the greatest ever. This reissue (+ 4 bonus tracks), and the remastering sounds excellent, it's certainly a lot louder and brighter than the original release.

Sweet F.A. signed their first record deal with MCA Records in 1989 releasing the debut album "Stick To Your Guns", and it reached #161 on the Billboard Album Charts. The band toured for several months and performed shows with bands such as Slaughter, Circus Of Power, Winger, Tuff, Foghat, and Reo Speedwagon. This album rocks from start to finish, and has everything a sleaze fan could possibly ask for. Sweet F.A. looked good, sounded killer, and wrote excellent tunes, but fame sadly eluded them.

Stick Men’s first-ever concert album finds King Crimson bassist Tony Levin and Co. in their element. No matter the praise heaped upon their latest, and arguably best, studio effort, this is band — like Crimson — best heard live.
