As a 30+ year super-fan and admirer of the NGDB, a live show from this specific era was a welcomed find. The sound quality is generally good, capturing the on-stage sound authentically, technical flaws and all, keeping the crowd noise to a minimum. The repertoire is a full representation of what the band was playing at the time and a majority of their well-known songs are present.

Much of the magic of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band returned on Workin' Band. Switching labels and signing to Warner Brothers, the group put a lot of effort into this disc and it shows. Perhaps the assistence of former Eagle Bernie Leadon helped gel their ideas, but by now, they had embraced country music with arms open wide, and the result was a fine effort from a veteran band.

A couple of years after the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's string of country hits ended, the band returned to its roots to record this appropriately titled collection of original material. Most of the songs are very good, and the sound is refreshingly unadorned with any concessions to the soundalike country mainstream.

Long before Americana music had a name, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band helped lead the charge, mixing elements of country, bluegrass, folk, mountain music, and rock & roll into a sound that celebrated the full range of American music. With multi-platinum and gold records, strings of top ten hits such as "Fishin' In The Dark" and "Mr. Bojangles", multiple GRAMMY, IBMA, ACM Awards and nominations, CMA Awards and nominations, the band's accolades continue to accumulate.

Recorded during three shows at the Red Deer Fine Arts Center in Alberta, Canada, in 1991, Live Two Five contains a healthy portion of the band's significant hit output. Consisting mostly of faithful, slightly extended versions of their classic laid-back country-rock classics, only a meandering 11-minute "Ripplin' Waters" and a completely unnecessary harmonica instrumental on "Harpo" are significant low points.

The first album issued by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band after they had temporarily disbanded in 1969, this greatly expanded their pop audience, due primarily to the Top 10 hit cover of Jerry Jeff Walker's "Mr. Bojangles" (which actually wasn't a hit until early 1971). The group moved into a more accessible rock-oriented fusion of country, bluegrass, pop, and rock & roll, relying primarily on smartly chosen covers of tunes by the likes of Walker, Mike Nesmith, Randy Newman, and Kenny Loggins.

Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest.
