This is series of seriously intoxicating Latin and American Bossa-Samba-Jazz sounds! It all began in the '50s when composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, inspired by West Coast Jazz, helped to form a new music that blended together gentle Brazilian Samba rhythms and melodies with cool-toned improvising. These compilations contain the results of Jobim's influential musical experiment, as they feature a myriad of artists serving up a cocktail blend of rare original Brazilian and American Bossa Nova and Jazz from the 60's. Each volume comes complete with a different sexy vixen on each of the covers…and we do mean SEXY! Includes 80 tracks featuring classic performances by Les McCann, Mongo Santamaria, Cal Tjader, The Champs, Lalo Schifrin, Nina Simone, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Mel Torme, Peggy Lee, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Man, Kenny Burrell, Mose Allison, Candido, Xavier Cugat & His Orhcestra, Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 and many more.
The Most Popular Guitar is a recording by guitarist Chet Atkins, released in 1961. It is an example of his highly orchestrated, smooth sound with lush strings and vocal choruses. While it did not top the chart action of his previous release Chet Atkins' Workshop, it spent ten weeks on the Billboard LP chart…
The Wishes and the Glitch is the fifth full-length album by Say Hi.
Impeccable Blahs is the fourth full-length album by Seattle-based indie rock band Say Hi. It was written almost entirely about vampires, though Star Trek is also mentioned. The song "Angels and Darlas" is a reference to Angel and Darla from the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel both created by Joss Whedon.
Bill Evans' Fantasy recordings of 1973-1979 have often been underrated in favor of his earlier work but, as this remarkable nine-CD set continually shows, the influential pianist continued to grow as a musician through the years while holding on to his original conception and distinctive sound. The collection has all of the 98 selections recorded at Evans' 11 Fantasy sessions, including nine numbers from a previously unreleased 1976 concert with his trio. In addition, Evans' appearance on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz radio program is tacked on as a bonus and it is actually among McPartland's finest shows, a fascinating hour of discussion and music with Evans.
THE COMPLETE RCA VICTOR RECORDINGS includes the five solo albums Desmond released on RCA's Bluebird imprint in the early 1960s: DESMOND BLUE, TAKE TEN, GLAD TO BE UNHAPPY, BOSSA ANTIGUA and EASY LIVING. Between 1962 and 1964 Paul Desmond , Dave Brubeck's alto saxophonist (and composer of "Take Five"), recorded five remarkable albums for RCA with guitarist Jim Hall. (Listeners might recall that the inimitable Hall also recorded with Sonny Rollins for RCA during the same period.) Luckily, RCA has seen fit to reissue the Desmond-Hall sessions in an attractive 5-CD box. Of these, only the first session, DESMOND BLUE, was arranged for strings. Otherwise it's just Desmond and Hall, a few good bass players and the great MJQ drummer Connie Kay, whom Desmond long revered for his subtle touch.
2007 four CD retrospective that highlights their years spent with EMI Records, 1963-66 featuring seven previously unreleased recordings. The band was started by Mike Hugg and Manfred. They were Jazz musicians but it didn't pay the bills so they decided to form an R&B band. They recruited a group of similarly under-employed Jazz players and then held auditions for a singer or "shouter" as it was described to Paul Jones who eventually got the job. The line up was completed by Mike Vickers and Tom McGuiness. Jones's harmonica gave the group their distinct sound and they soon became one of Britain's leading bands of the '60s. They hit the top 10 regularly with hits like '5-4-3-2-1', 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy', 'Sha La La', Come Tomorrow, 'If You Gotta Go, Go Now' and 'Pretty Flamingo'. Booklet contains sessionography and illustrated discography. 97 tracks.
