Computer Games is a 1982 album by funk musician George Clinton, released on Capitol Records. Though technically Clinton's first "solo" album, the record featured most of the same personnel who had appeared on recent albums by Parliament and Funkadelic, both formally disbanded by Clinton in 1981. Conceived in the aftermath of a period marked by financial and personal struggles for Clinton, "Computer Games" restored his popularity for a short time before P-Funk fell victim to renewed legal problems and scant label support in the mid 1980s. The album was listed by Slant Magazine at #97 on its list of "Best Albums of the 1980s.

The mastermind of the Parliament/Funkadelic collective during the 1970s, George Clinton broke up both bands by 1981 and began recording solo albums, occasionally performing live with his former bandmates as the P.Funk All-Stars. Born in Kannapolis, NC, on July 22, 1940, Clinton became interested in doo wop while living in New Jersey during the early '50s. He formed the Parliaments in 1955, based out of a barbershop back room where he straightened hair. The group had a small R&B hit during 1967, but Clinton began to mastermind the Parliaments' activities two years later.

' This CD features a collection of George Clinton classics covered by rappers like Coolio, Busta Rhymes, and Digital Underground. The rap guys bring a raw energy to tracks like “Flashlight” that makes these remade grooves eminently listenable. Of course the rappers bring their own style with them, but their love and admiration for Clinton shines through always. This is more than sampling; this is a hommage to the man who made funk what it is.' editorial.review@amazone.com

Don Letts's hilarious and colourful profile of the godfather of funk, whose 50-year career has defined the genre. From his 1950s days running a doo-wop group out of the back of his barber store, through the madness of the monster Parliament/Funkadelic machine of the 70s to his late 90s hip-hop collaborations with Dre and Snoop, George Clinton has inspired generations of imitators. Contributors include Outkast's Andre 3000 and Macy Gray.
