Though recorded by what was technically a Christian rock group, the Richie Furay band's Dance a Little Light is a far cry from the heavy-handed, musically inept evangelizing often associated with the genre. Despite his then-recent born-again status, Furay was still the same guy who played a pivotal role in two of the most important and influential country-rock bands of all time, Poco and Buffalo Springfield…

Richie Furay started his musical career playing folk clubs as a solo artist in the 1960s, as well as with bands like the Monks and the Au Go Go Singers (which included Stephen Stills in the lineup). After meeting Neil Young they formed Buffalo Springfield with Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin. The band cut its first album, Buffalo Springfield, in 1967; it included the single "For What It's Worth." Buffalo Springfield recorded two more albums – Buffalo Springfield Again and Last Time Around – before disbanding in 1968…

Since his days in the Buffalo Springfield, Richie Furay has often been overshadowed by the company he keeps, but although he has never become a household word like some of his bandmates, he has maintained a more steady life than most, even largely leaving pop music behind to become a pastor…

In this concert recorded live in Hamburg, the qualities that made the reputation of this quartet on the jazz planet emerge in full light: an alternation of lyrical flights and incandescent movements, a fusion of classical, contemporary and jazz music, a union of four personalities that respect eachother. This is the true hallmark of Quest: a saxophonist (Dave Liebman), a pianist (Richie Beirach) a bass player (Ron McClure) and a drummer (Billy Hart) permanently applying a rule, formerly cited by a famous political leader: independence within interdependence.

After leaving the Commodores, Lionel Richie became one of the most successful male solo artists of the '80s, arguably eclipsed during his 1981-1987 heyday only by Michael Jackson and Prince. Richie dominated the pop charts during that period with an incredible run of 13 consecutive Top Ten hits, five of them number ones. As his popularity skyrocketed, Richie moved further away from his R&B origins and concentrated more on adult contemporary balladry, which had been one of his strengths even as part of the Commodores.
