A new exciting album the UK's Queen of the blues, Zoe Schwarz and the Commotions. Featuring her vocals alongside the great guitarist, Rob Koral, with Pete Whittaker on Hammond and Paul Robinson on drums and percussion. "Blue Commotion is a breath of fresh air on a contemporary music scene too often dominated by image, the bottom line and the need for an instant hook. They refresh the blues genre with mostly self penned material, hugely original arrangements, virtuosic playing and of course Zoe Schwarz's majestic vocal sweep and interpretive ability.

Jazz / Post Bop / Piano

This is a recommended set of stimulating post-bop jazz. Andrew Hill's highly distinctive piano playing and unusual compositions hint at the past while following their own rules. The feeling of polyrhythms is present in several of Hill's seven compositions on this CD. The tightness of the bass-drum team (Lonnie Plaxico and Cecil Brooks) is quite impressive, as is the blend of Robin Eubanks' warm trombone and Greg Osby's alto.

On their second album, 1969's "Suite Feeling", Lighthouse reached the height of their most experimental phase. Particularly on the ten-minute instrumental "Places on Faces Four Blue Carpet Traces," the jazz-rock-classical ensemble stretched out with graceful, passionate improvisations that had seldom been heard in rock arrangements. Other songs such as "Feel So Good," "Places on Faces," and "Could You Be Concerned" were among the most popular staples of their early concerts, which established them as favorites on North America's mushrooming rock festival circuit. The record also featured some of their most classical-influenced pieces, "Presents of Presence" and "Taking a Walk." They also put their individual stamp on covers of the Band's "Chest Fever" and, most adventurously of all, the Beatles' "A Day in the Life."

Features the high-fidelity SHM-CD format (compatible with standard CD player) and 24 bit remastering. Featuring the work of obscure composer/pianist Todd Cochrane, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson's 1971 album Head On is a highly cerebral and atmospheric affair that is somewhat different than his other equally experimental '70s work. Although the album does feature more of the avant-garde jazz that Hutcherson was exploring during this period, Cochrane's material is heavily influenced by contemporary classical music, and accordingly Head On is more of an exercise in reflective, layered jazz than rambunctious freebop – though it does offer some of that, too.
