Levert and his supporting musicians and vocalists, most of whom have been working with the singer for decades, roll through a strong and varied set that has echoes of the past while sounding in the present. It's full of life, and Levert has retained more power than many a singer much younger than him. He couldn't be faulted for sticking to nothing but soul-steeped belters and relaxed grooves, but he ventures into hard rock and reggae with full force, and isn't above telling someone to "get a life" in "Shit Starter." Otherwise, Levert and company play it straight with sweetly finessed material rooted in gospel and Philly-flavored soul tradition. Oddly, the booklet credits the writers of only one song, "I Let Go," a breakup ballad written by Eddie with late son Gerald that recalls Lionel Richie's "Hello." Eddie presumably had a hand in the rest, including "Never Miss Your Water," which is not a Whispers cover.

If Eric Benet’s career can be defined by anything, it’s the purity of emotion. He’s consistently made music that speaks to love and speaks from the soul and on Lost In Time he does it once again. Featuring duets with Faith Evans, Chrisette Michele, Ledisi and the O’Jays Eddie Levert, Lost In Time is at once a sumptuous homage to and an expansion of the sweet soul of the 1970’s.

The O'Jays had an extensive recording career, taking in stints for several labels before they become big stars with their Philadelphia International hits in the 1970s. A large chunk of their pre-'70s discography was on Imperial, and this compilation contains 28 tracks they put out with the company between 1963 and 1966. Although some of these were low- to moderate-charting singles, the group really didn't hit either a commercial or artistic stride during this period. A lot of that was due to failing to find much of a musical identity. Some of the songs bridge doo wop with early soul; some are a little in an early New Orleans soul style, like their version of Allen Toussaint's "Lipstick Traces"; some are, like much soul of the time, very Motown-influenced, and some of the more orchestrated arrangements show the influence of hitmakers like the Righteous Brothers and the Drifters (whose "On Broadway" is heavily echoed by "I'm Gonna Make It").

Jamaican-born bluesman Kirkland has always stretched the boundaries of his music and on this outing moves further into contemporary waters. Guest stars abound on this album, and Kirkland's idiosyncratic guitar work is answered and abetted by appearances from Tab Benoit, Sonny Landreth, Kenny Neal, Cub Koda, Christine Ohlman and G.E. Smith, as well as driving work from drummer Jaimoe and organist Richard Bell. The material is all over the road, but particularly noteworthy as highlights are Kirkland's take on Elmore James' "Done Somebody Wrong," "Snake In the Grass," "Nightgirl," and the title track.

Eddie og Suzanne is a 1975 Norwegian drama film written and directed by Arild Kristo, starring Sverre Horge and Yvonne Sparrbåge. The film, a road movie inspired by such films as Bonnie and Clyde and Easy Rider, has been called a "modernist classic" of Norwegian cinema. Eddie is a young Norwegian man who has recently been released from prison, and moves to Sweden to start a new life. At a disco, he meets Suzanne and the two fall in love. Suzanne's father, however, is a tyrannical policeman who tries to put an end to the relationship, so the two elope to France.
