Rock legends like Jon Lord and Ian Paice from Deep Purple had several concerts together with the band and were quite taken with their musicality and power. After building up a reputation as a Deep Purple Tribute Band, they established their name as an original band with their successful debut album „The Stranger Within“ in 2011. With „Under the Neon“, Demon’s Eye will now release their second album, once again featuring Doogie White, former singer of Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and current lead vocalist with Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock. The songs of „Under the Neon“ seem to fit Doogie White‘s voice like a glove, enabling him to sing with great passion and emotion. This kind of music seems to lend wings to the Scottish singer. „Under the Neon“ contains everything that enthralls fans of classic hard rock bands: powerful vocals rich in variety as well as brilliant and virtuose solos on guitar and hammond organ.

While they started out in the late '60s as a psychedelic band, delved into progressive rock, and even recorded an album in collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Deep Purple achieved their greatest success as a strong, straightforward, hard rock band, anchored by the powerful guitar work of Ritchie Blackmore and the show-stopping vocals of Ian Gillan (and later David Coverdale). From 1970's Deep Purple in Rock to 1974's Stormbringer, Deep Purple were one of the most popular hard rock bands on Earth, and Deepest Purple: The Very Best of Deep Purple captures the band at the top of their form on some of their best-known songs…

Formed in the 70s by Walter Burns and Maurice Roberson, Moolah delivers a bewitching tranced-out droning krautrockin' universe. Their own musical identity is made of lysergic-aleatoric experiments, garage sounds, neo-shamanic voice incantations and cosmic synth ondulations. Rather intuitive anarchic release but it contains some memorable creative moments and nicely done eastern-like buzzing spaciness. Woe Ye Demons Possessed (1974) is a rarity and a must have for fans of the most experimental side of krautrock music (Eruption, Kluster, Organisation, Think, Zweistein.)

I came to a realization as I approached this review of Prophecies and Lies, the third album by North Carolina’s Demon Eye. I tend to navigate towards one of two directions when it comes to music. Either I grab onto something fresh, exciting, and genre-pushing, or I flock to well-worn sounds that are performed with such conviction, talent, and pizzazz that it makes me overlook that yes, I have heard this a million times before. Prophecies and Lies comfortably falls into the latter category, generating a sound that recalls the glory years of the 70s. But if you’re anything like me, first of all, clean your room, and second, you’re probably sick to death of bands aping the retro-doom sound making its rounds among the underground. The music’s gotta be something special for me to pay attention and give it my time.

Label: Svart Records

The second solo album from Kimi Kärki, Eye for an Eye, is abidingly sad — make no mistake — but ultimately it is defined by more than just its melancholy. Released through Svart Records, which also stood behind the Finland-based former Reverend Bizarre and current Lord Vicar (see also: Orne, E-Musikgruppe Lux Ohr, Uhrijuhla, etc.) guitarist’s 2013 debut, The Bone of My Bones (review here), the also-cyclically-titled outing shares in common with its predecessor its heartfelt and folkish delivery, but steps further into an intimacy of songwriting and seems to bask in minimalism even as it expands Kärki‘s use of harmonized vocal arrangements, echoing spaciousness and synth on works like the centerpiece “Good Things in Life” and its finale.
