Voted the number two big band playing in the mid-'00s by a Jazz Times Reader's Poll, the popular, Grammy nominated, L.A.-based ensemble the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra celebrated 20 years of maintaining and expanding the big band jazz tradition in 2005. As the adage goes, the live setting is where the spirit of jazz really happens, and this recording, Live at MCG – recorded over a four-day "residency" at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild in Pittsburgh in May 2004 – perfectly captures Clayton-Hamilton's spontaneous spirit.

The original Chico Hamilton Quintet was one of the last significant West Coast jazz bands of the cool era. Consisting of Buddy Collette on reeds (flute, clarinet, alto, and tenor), guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Carson Smith, and the drummer/leader, the most distinctive element in the group's identity was cellist Fred Katz. The band could play quite softly, blending together elements of bop and classical music into their popular sound and occupying their own niche. This six-CD, limited-edition box set from 1997 starts off with a Hamilton drum solo from a 1954 performance with the Gerry Mulligan Quartet; it contains three full albums and many previously unreleased numbers) by the original Chico Hamilton band and also has quite a few titles from the second Hamilton group (which has Paul Horn and John Pisano in the places of Collette and Hall).

"Matters of the Dark" was released in early 2002. This album continued on the heavier path set on the previous release "Undead" and was recorded at the same studio. In spring of 2002 the band set off for a European tour together with NWOBHM legends Demon and the German band Chinchilla. Various shows around Sweden followed and even saw the band performing 2 shows in 2 different cities at the same night! In June TAD MOROSE made their first show in the US at the Milwaukee Metal Fest.

While Tad Morose would eventually become a pretty straight forward heavy metal band, they started out with a string of sort-of-progressive metal albums in the 90’s. Their 1993 debut, "Leaving the Past Behind" plays like a bunch of Metallica riffs, stitched together in a vaguely progressive fashion with some Tony Martin era Black Sabbath style vocals and a lot of cheesy keyboard atmospherics on top. There’s a certain soulful edge to many of the vocal melodies (especially the choruses) and some tender keyboard melodies, even though the riffs are often rather muscular in style. This dynamic creates a certain tension and release effect, where melodic choruses and keyboard passages stand in contrast to the choppy, lumbering, heavy passages.

Who is Tad Caldwell? For Nathan, Shawn, Eric, and Jonathan, the mystery begins in 1989 in suburban Metairie, Louisiana. The four teenagers hold a weekly horror movie night. But one Friday, Shawn plays a tape that proves more real than anything they've ever seen–and Nathan is the victim. Before Nathan watches himself die, his video double calls out a name: Tad Caldwell–a reclusive science-fiction writer whose last book came out in the 1960s. In the New Orleans shop where the tape originated, the owner gives him a book by Caldwell. Years before, a UFO encounter led to the suspicious disappearance of the writer's son, Roger. Before his disgrace, Caldwell wrote the only book he could–the revelations he believed the aliens left in his mind–a harrowing bible of alien philosophy, occult science, telepathy, electronic voice phenomenon and time travel. Nathan fearfully reads Caldwell's book. It claims to unlock telepathic powers to communicate with the past–even over magnetic video and audio tapes. Then, Theresa re-enters his life. Years before, the young Finnish woman once stayed as an exchange student with Nathan and his mother. But, the relationship between mother and son has been troubled since the loss of Nathan's father in a car crash years earlier. Nathan and Theresa seek out the reclusive Tad Caldwell in search of answers. Living in rural Batesville, Mississippi, the elderly writer welcomes the company. Theresa doesn't trust him, but Nathan won't listen–even as evidence mounts that Caldwell may be more than he seems. He works on a mysterious satellite dish next to his house. Odd noises emanate from his basement. Nathan refuses to notice. The old man restores the father figure he lost years before. Then, Caldwell disappears…
