Mary Black (born 22 May 1955, in Dublin) is an Irish singer. She is well-known as an interpreter of both folk and contemporary material which has made her a major recording artist in her native Ireland, and in many other parts of the world.

This was the album that heralded Mary's transition from singing purely traditional and roots-based songs to tackling a broader range of material. A variety of fresh influences started to colour the songs she chose and the way she performed them. It was also the first time that she recorded with what she now calls her big sound, the full electric-acoustic band that backs her on tour and in the studio.

Hard to believe it’s been 30 years since the release of "By The Time It Gets Dark" in 1987. There’s been a lot of water under the bridge since then and how time flies when you’re busy and having a good time! As it’s always been one of my favourite albums I felt that it deserved to be revisited to celebrate it's 30th anniversary. With that in mind we sent the old 24 track tapes to be baked (a process to preserve them) allowing us to do a complete remix and remaster the album.

On August 6th and 9th, 1945, two atomic bombs vaporized 210,000 people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those who survived are called "hibakusha"–people exposed to the bomb–and there are an estimated 200,000 living today. Today, with the threat of nuclear weapons of mass destruction frighteningly real- the world's arsenal capable of repeating the destruction at Hiroshima 400,000 times over, Oscar award-winning filmmaker Steven Okazaki revisits the bombings and shares the stories of the only people to have survived a nuclear attack.

Symphonic Black/Pagan/Power/Folk/Viking Metal

Anyone who has closely followed the lively development of this Ruhrpott legend since the founding, knows exactly about the always upright and loyal attitude of the inflexible legation. When Germany’s Black Messiah came to the public in 1992, the Metal world was still quite different from what it currently is. But to this day, the singing leader Zagan with his guitar, violin and titanic passion held fast to his immovable ideals. And what began courageous as an innovative-folkish Pagan Black Metal and then, over the years, led more and more into classic, highly epic Pagan Metal with a Power Metal flair, now flows into „Walls Of Vanaheim“. …

Gothic Voices, the world-famous early music ensemble, makes its Linn debut with a recording celebrating the biblical matriarch Mary. Pieces from contemporary composers Joanne Metcalf and Andrew Smith sit alongside settings of Marian texts from the 13th and 14th centuries. Notably, there is a rare setting of English biblical text which precedes the first publication of an English language bible by 150 years. Mary in her various guises - caring mother, virgin lover, guiding light - are explored through settings of ancient ritualistic texts showing her mythical and human aspects, whilst contemporary settings relate the themes to the modern day. The contemporary works are cleverly constructed around a modal core so that they fit perfectly with the structure and sound of the early music compositions. With over thirty years experience Gothic Voices' complete understanding of every aspect of early music performance is exceptional.

Ex-October Project singer Mary Fahl undertakes the audacious feat of remaking Pink Floyd’s signature album and, against all odds, manages to pull it off convincingly. Her success is due in large part to her remarkable contralto voice, an instrument of near-operatic power. Beyond this, she possesses the imagination to find renewed meaning in Dark Side of the Moon’s bleak vision of humanity, savoring its mordant humor and drawing out the torment buried within its cynicism.
