Dead Can Dance (sometimes referred to as DCD) is a world fusion music band that was formed in Melbourne, Australia, in August 1981, by Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. Dead Can Dance combine elements of European folk music – particularly music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance – with ambient pop and worldbeat flourishes. Their songs are of lost beauty, regret and sorrow, inspiration and nobility, and of the everlasting human goal of attaining a meaningful existence.

Along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums in the U.S., along with a number of radio hits like "Listen to the Music," "Black Water," and "China Grove."

While the U.S. was being swept up by disco mania in 1978, Foreigner issued another hard rock tour de force, Double Vision. It was unthinkable that the sextet could outdo its solid 1977 self-titled debut, but it somehow did. Lou Gramm and company issued another set of rock radio staples and rock-steady album tracks, the best-known being such perennial arena rockers as "Hot Blooded" and the title track. But the highpoints didn't just stop there - such oft-overlooked compositions as "Blue Morning, Blue Day," "Lonely Children," and "I Have Waited So Long" are just as strong. Double Vision solidified Foreigner's standing as a '70s rock sensation.

Surfer Rosa is often cited as a favorite of music critics, and is frequently included on professional lists of the all-time best rock albums. Many alternative rock artists, including Billy Corgan, Rivers Cuomo and PJ Harvey, have cited the album as inspirational; Nirvana's Kurt Cobain frequently acknowledged that Surfer Rosa was a strong influence on Nevermind, and in 1993 hired Albini to produce his band's album In Utero.

To follow up their 1988 classic Surfer Rosa, the Pixies brought Gil Norton (Echo & The Bunnymen, Patty Smith, Foo Fighters) on board to produce. The result, 1989's Doolittle (only their second full LP and major-label debut) was an equally brilliant if not superior release to its predecessor. A full-on sensory audio roller coaster, these forty minutes are both a benchmark and timeless monument, mixing surf-pop, alternative and grunge with schizophrenic pacing and lulls-to-head banging jolts.

Released on August 13th, 1990, Bossanova was the Pixies' third release and was their second time collaborating with independent English producer Gil Norton. The album departed from the "unpredictable" signature sound of the Pixies and is considered their first thematic project. All the original songwriting on Bossanova is by leader Black Francis (Frank Thompson), who ultimately reveals his twisted interpretation of surf music combined with his fascination of aliens and UFOs. The end result is Bossanova, often described as a surf-space rock album that touched upon new heights for the Pixies.
