Nostalghia is Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky's enigmatic work about a writer (Oleg Yankovsky) who, trapped by his fame and an unhappy marriage, seeks out his cultural past in Italy. Here he meets Erland Josephson, a local pariah who declares that the world is coming to an end. The writer finds this prophecy curiously more alluring than the possibility of a dead-end future. Nostalghia won the Grand Prix de Creation and the International Critics Prize at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival.

Kino - Cutting Room Floor (2005)  Music

Where did these guys get there name from, 'Kino' means 'cinema ' in German!? Anyway, the music has no secrets delivering a very melodic and catchy blend of pop and rock with some progressive tendencies. It's not really my cup of tea but I have to admit that the nine compositions (live and demo) sound very tastefully arranged (from propulsive up-tempo to dreamy ballads) featuring lots of vocal harmonies, wonderful guitar soli (from sensitive to fiery) and pleasant keyboard contributions (piano, strings, synthesizers, organ).

KINO are a relatively new progressive rock band, I suppose would be considered a "supergroup". With membership including Marillion's Peter Trewavas, Aarena's John Mitchell, Porcupine Tree's Chris Maitland and It Bites' John Beck this band deliver the new gen prog rock. Musically this band is a mix of a little bit of everything… from the syncopated prowess of "Spock's Beard" to the symphonic latitude of Arena to the melodic detail of The Flower Kings.
