Likely the only time Grant Lee Buffalo's Grant Lee Phillips and Cirque du Soleil will appear in the same commercial DJ mix, the ninth volume of the Buddha-Bar series is mixed by Ravin, who presents a typically diverse set of tracks that fits into the establishment’s take (relaxed, spiritual) on dance music.

When David Lynch studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia (PAFA), he made a series of complex mosaics in geometric shapes which he called Industrial Symphonies. We travel to the Tohoku region in northern Japan during winter. We first board the Akita Inland Traverse Railway Home-cooking Dining Car, where we take in the wintery landscapes, while feasting on a homemade farmers' meal. We then hop on the Resort Shirakami to catch a spectacular panorama view of the Sea of Japan. Changing to the Tsugaru Railway Hot Stove Car, we warm ourselves by the hot onboard stove while the snow storms pass by outside. We mingle with the locals and nibble on fried cuttlefish snacks.

The second outing from the female half of Australian sibling folk-pop duo Angus & Julia Stone is steeped in the sunset hue of 1970s California pop. Produced by Thomas Bartlett (The National) and Patrick Dillett (Mary J. Blige), By the Horns' greatest strength is also its biggest distraction. Stone's fragile voice is an acquired taste that falls somewhere between the primal affectations of Björk, the airy, pixie croon of Julee Cruise, and the throaty desperation of Stevie Nicks, but there's a soulfulness to it that lends a bit of phantom power to driving stand-out cuts like "It's All Okay," "With the Light," and "Justine".

Until the End of the World is a definite contender for best motion picture soundtrack of the 1990s. With a lineup that includes Talking Heads, Lou Reed, R.E.M., Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode, U2, and others all providing original songs or new covers, it's an absolute joy. (…) It's hard to imagine a better song progression than that of the one from Julee Cruise to Neneh Cherry here. Throw in U2's Achtung Baby-shared track "Until the End of the World" and a Kinks cover by Elvis Costello, and it's almost impossible to think of a better soundtrack from or to the 1990s.
