Quite an unusual album from Grant Green – a record that's quite different than his earlier records for Blue Note, but still pretty darn great overall! Grant's working here in a large group – Kudu style – with arrangements by David Matthews, but a sound that's still pretty lean overall! There's a fair bit of great players in the lineup – including Jon Faddis on trumpet, Hubert Laws on flute, and Joe Farrell on tenor – and the horns soar out nicely to set the scene over some tightly stepping backings – all served up with plenty of room for Grant to solo spaciously on guitar! The title track – "The Main Attraction" – is nearly 20 minutes long – and the other two tracks, "Creature" and "Future Feature", both approach the 10 minute mark themselves!
Features 24 bit remastering and comes with a mini-description. This is the music that will be playing when you die and go to heaven. Excellent original style Dixieland, George's clarinet is heaven! I don't know if any record can do justice to the live experience of the original giants of jazz creating this stuff. But the George Lewis tracks on this record come pretty close! For this alone this CD is well worth buying.
Two iconic 80s soul albums from the late, great CARL ANDERSON finally debut on CD. Both albums represent pure quality from the era with Absence With Out Love featuring one of soul musics signature tracks from the era, Buttercup, written by STEVIE WONDER. The title track also features a rare cameo appearance by another soul superstar, TEENA MARIE. Musicians on both these albums are a who's who from the period's top players including Freddy Washington on bass, Paul Jackson on guitar, the Seawind horns, Sonny Burke on keys and the John Barnes among the provider of lavish strings. The songwritinjg is exceptional and these two albums feature much of Carl's best work, including his duet with Vaneese Thomas (On An On), and the 80s boogie dance classic Don't Make Me Wait.
