On the face of it, John Denver was an unlikely candidate for pop stardom. He achieved fame with a message of wide-eyed optimism at a time when the U.S.A. was wracked by political scandals, economic uncertainty and the after-effects of the Vietnam War. His boyish looks and wholesome persona went against the grain of a society obsessed with hipness.
Denver provided an alternative vision and millions responded to it. A veteran of the folk movement (including a stint with the Chad Mitchell Trio), he emerged as a positive voice who could reach across the generational divide with his music.
Included in this definitive set of John Denver's recordings are his many gold and platinum-selling LPs including Poems, Prayers and Promises (with the hits "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and "Sunshine on My Shoulders"), Rocky Mountain High and Windsong (with such enduring compositions as "Annie's Song" and "I'm Sorry") as well as later forays into country and pop, all of which contain hidden gems worthy of deeper investigation.
A highlight of this set is a true rarity, the 1966 LP John Denver Sings, a privately pressed, limited-run album released only to John's friends and family. The recording captures Denver's youthful idealism and guileless spirit qualities that remained a part of his music until his tragic death in a 1997 plane crash.
The most complete package to date of John Denver's The Complete Studio Albums.Contains 24 original RCA albums released between 1969 and 1986, plus Denver's rare privately pressed 1966 LP, John Denver Sings. Many of these albums have never been available on CD. Each individual album is packaged in a replica mini-LP sleeve reproducing that album's original cover art.
THE FIRST OF THE TWELVE discs in this collection of Anna Moffo’s RCA recital recordings begins with a 1960 performance of the jewel song from Gounod’s Faust, and that selection, along with the others on this disc, sets out the singer’s basic assets and liabilities. It’s a fresh lyric sound - Moffo was twenty-eight that year - ven throughout the range, accurate in pitch and coloratura, with a good try at a trill.

Kyuss was an American rock band, formed in Palm Desert, California in 1987 by Josh Homme (guitar), John Garcia (vocals), Brant Bjork (drums) and Chris Cockrell (bass). After releasing an EP under the name Sons of Kyuss in 1990, the band shortened its name to Kyuss and recruited Nick Oliveri. Over the next five years the band released four full-length albums, and one last split EP in 1997 as Kyuss and the newly formed Queens of the Stone Age. This nicely tied up the loose ends of Kyuss and introduced the new band Queens of the Stone Age, which was at one time composed entirely of ex-Kyuss members. ~Wikipedia
Stanisaw Skrowaczewski will celebrate his 90th birthday on October 3, 2013. To mark this occasion, OehmsClassics brought together all the CDs he's recorded for the label into a Deluxe Edition. Lovingly edited, with a high-quality booklet and many pictures, some of which are previously unknown, this collection is intended as homage to a conductor who, far removed from any star hype, can look back modestly at 90 years of a more than fulfilled musician's life.
Excellent value box containing all of Berg's major works. The best performance is maybe Abbado's of Wozzeck. This is a live recording and sounds like it;very exciting orchestral playing that sometimes almost drowns out the voices . I dont think this is a problem as it kind of fits with opera's theme of helpless people up against forces they cant control etc. The Boulez recording of Lulu is also very good but here the lack of libretto in the package is a bit annoying as the opera has a very elaborate plot and the synopsis provided isnt really detailed enough to follow what's going on.
