Weather Report must have been one of the most important Jazz-Rock groups from the 1970s, founded by his two major instrumentalists Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter 40 years ago. Late 1970s Weather Report was at the very height of its success and featured, except Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, guitar legend Jaco Pastorius and drummer Peter Erskine. In September - October 1978 they toured along Europe and were scheduled for a dozen concerts; the live concert at the Stadthalle in Offenbach was recorded and is now available on a 2cd album and a DVD, which offers this complete concert. A must-have for all Weather Report fans. Keep Swinging loves to point you to this kind of historical concerts.

If you like Weather Report you'll probably like this music, though purists may say that it's late, missing Pastorius, and perhaps a bit mechanical by this stage (and certainly the medley of their most famous tracks does seem a bit like "they're expecting these so we have to deliver"). The energy and atmosphere are still there, and this a valuable - though very short - document of a unique moment in the history of music.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Weather Report the Zawinul estate is proud to release this live document of the band's performance in Cologne, Germany, on May 13th, 1983. This is the first time that this wonderful concert has been available and it's released simultaneously on 2CD. By this time leaders Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter had produced some of the most innovative and best selling jazz of the 1970's, often in the company of some of the foremost musicians of that time including Jaco Pastorius and Peter Erskine. By 1983 this bass and drums team had departed and Zawinul and Shorter completely refashioned the band bringing on board a new, younger, rhythm section including Victor Bailey, Omar Hakim and Jose Rossy.

This album really shows fusion jazz at it's best, experimental, searching and bringing together elements from world music long before it was fashionable.

Live and Unreleased is a compilation of live recordings of Weather Report. The tracks are taken from live performances that took place from November 25, 1975 to June 3, 1983. Since its skill at live improvisation made up a large part of the band's appeal, its perhaps surprising that this is only their third official live recording (the previous two were 1972's Live in Tokyo and 1979's 8:30).

Reissue with latest remastering. Comes with liner notes. Hardbop albums don't get any better than this – and although drummer Dave Bailey only recorded for a brief stretch as a leader, this session's one that shows that he was a heck of a force to contend with! The record's got an intensity that easily rivals the best by Art Blakey over at Blue Note during the early 60s – but Dave's also got a slightly looser groove too – a bit more sense of humanity, and one that allows for really organic interplay between the players. There's a slight soul jazz undercurrent – especially in the piano lines of Billy Gardner – and other players in the quintet include Bill Hardman on trumpet, Frank Haynes on tenor, and Ben Tucker on bass. The group wails on an early version of Tucker's classic "Comin' Home Baby", plus other great originals like "Coffee Walk", "Lady Iris B", and "Two Feet In the Gutter".

Reissue with latest remastering. Comes with liner notes. Some of the best modern jazz Italy had to offer in the postwar years – and a record that's gone onto be the blueprint for countless recent work from groups on labels like Schema and Deja Vu! Tracks are short, but very groove-centered – often mixing modal jazz rhythms with hardbop solo energy – served up beautifully through the tenor of Gianni Basso and the trumpet of Oscar Valdambrini! The pair are hardly a household name on this side of the Atlantic, but their interplay here matches the best on Blue Note from the same time – and gets some great rhythm support from the trio of Renato Sellani on piano, Giorgio Azzolini on bass, and Gianni Carzola on drums. Most tracks here are originals by members of the group, and titles include "Lotar", "Time Was", "Bashfully", "Tea Time", "Mitigati", "Renee", "Dialogo", and "Ricordando Lester".

Finnish alternative rockers Sunrise Avenue favor a brand of melodic, semi-hard rock with apparent influences ranging from Pearl Jam to Bon Jovi. The band was formed in Espoo, Finland in 1992 by lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist Samu Haber; after several years of shifting personnel, including a few years spent in Spain, Haber established a consistent lineup featuring keyboardist Jukka Backlund, bassist Raul Ruutu, and drummer Sami Osala.

Erstwhile 10,000 Maniacs frontwoman Natalie Merchant continues her highly successful solo career with LIVE IN CONCERT, a show that was recorded at New York's Neil Simon Theater. The set opens, somewhat appropriately, with one of the songs that got Merchant's solo career off to a blazing start, "Wonder." As she usually does in live performance, Merchant plays with the lyrical phrasing of the song to add unexpected melisma and daring tonal gambits. Merchant lends the dark and ephemeral "San Andreas Fault" a lightly sultry quality not found on the studio version. Other familiar favorites include "Beloved Wife," "Carnival," and "Ophelia." Merchant revisits the Maniacs' catalog only once, for a rousing take on "Gun Shy." Two unexpected covers spice the middle of the set: a haunting and powerful reading of David Bowie's "Space Oddity," and a beautiful take on Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush".
