40 years after the huge international impact of OXYGENE, and 20 years from its second volume OXYGENE 7-13, Jean-Michel Jarre is fulfilling a trilogy of albums with OXYGENE 3, containing seven newly composed and recorded pieces, consistently titled parts 14-20. His inspiration for the newly added parts on OXYGENE 3 was not to go back in time, but to add a sense of “now” to his iconic piece of work. Plunging into the environment of OXYGENE with its highly original dark, moody and at times quite upbeat musical language, Jarre references some of the music from his entire body of work on OXYGENE 3. It’s a state-of-the-art recording, embracing both classic and modern ways of music production.

Oxygène 3 is the nineteenth studio album by the French electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre. Announced via a post on Jarre's Instagram account, the album was released on 2 December 2016, on the 40th anniversary of the original Oxygène album. During the recording of his Electronica albums, Jarre composed and recorded a piece that he said "made me think about what Oxygène could be if I was composing it today." With the 40th anniversary in mind, Jarre decided to record another chapter of Oxygène, with the original minimalist approach in mind, but using new technology to create it…

Electronica 2: The Heart of Noise is the fifteenth studio album of French electronic musician Jean Michel Jarre. It is the second of a two-part album (the first being Electronica 1: The Time Machine) that is based around collaborations with other electronic musicians from a wide range of decades and styles. The Heart of Noise is a tribute to Luigi Russolo who proposed in 1913 in his futurist manifesto the Art of Noises a number of conclusions about how electronics and other technology will allow futurist musicians to "substitute for the limited variety of timbres that the orchestra possesses today the infinite variety of timbres in noises, reproduced with appropriate mechanisms". Russolo states that ''noise" first came into existence as the result of 19th century machines.

Think that the reason that this cd has not been rated very highly by previous reviewers, is that most of them bought it for the song 'Unchained Melody' and were then disapointed that there were no other songs in that genre. What people fail to realise is that this is a cd of the motion picture soundtrack. It is not a Righteous Brothers album. If you are not a fan of movie scores, then don't buy this album. But if you do like movie scores then I am sure you will appreciate the depth and beauty of this music. As a bonus, the booklet features an insightful essay on Maurice Jarre as well as the making of 'Ghost'. Also, each track has in-depth info about the place it had in the movie, and what was going on while the music was playing, so you can actually relive the film in your mind. Let me quote a little from the notes on 'Carl'…."..An electronic drone becomes more agitated as Carl pounds at his computer, Jarre tapping a synthesizer key along with a computer screen that laughs at the villain's desperation. Later Carl sits alone in his office…Sam pushes a chair across the room. The electronics begin to drone menacingly…Jarre's music becomes a flurry of computer notes as 'Sam' scrolls endlessly across the screen…" This is just a small example of how the track-by-track notes describe the music. Also, seeing the movie after listening to this album, makes the film even more enjoyable and exciting. Also, the booklet contains many photos from the film. And as if all of that isn't enough, this cd is now remastered with 2 bonus tracks that were not on the original release…'Fire Escape' and 'Oda Mae & Carl'. Yet another plus, and well worth the price in itself, is the beautiful love theme of Sam and Molly. Featured throughout the soundtrack, it is finally let loose in all its symphonic glory in the 'End Credits' after the orchestral version of 'Unchained Melody'.~ Amazon
