Alongside the rest of the early-'70s glam pack, Suzi Quatro fans have never had to search far for a hits compilation, but The Wild One is certainly one of the most all-encompassing. Quatro's own career divides into two very separate phases – there was her early run of hits and misses, traveling from 1972's "Rolling Stone" to 1977's "Tear Me Apart," and then there's the more rounded, adult sound that was ushered in by "If You Can't Give Me Love," and rolled on for another five years. This set bridges the two, drawing in a handful of numbers from that later period, but the lion's share of The Wild One concentrates on the leather-clad rocker who canned the can and drove down to Devilgate…

Resurrecting its title from a series of albums launched by England's Music for Pleasure label in the early 1970s to immortalize the work of producer Mickie Most, The Most of Suzi Quatro is a 20-track CD that essentially rounds up the best of her hit single output, then fills in the gaps with key album cuts and favorites…

Suzi Quatro was hardly the first Tough Girl in rock & roll there were plenty of precursors, from Wanda Jackson and the Shangri-Las to Grace Slick and Janis Joplin but Quatro codified a type of rock & roll woman who didn't exist before she took the stage, one who looked as tough as the guys and wasn't merely a singer but also an instrumentalist, the leader of the band who made the noise right along with the rest of the group. With her trademark leather jumpsuit and big bass guitar (which seemed even bigger given her diminutive stature of just five feet), Quatro created a new and potent image for women in rock, one that spoke of both strength and sexiness, and she became a major international star in the '70s, though it would take a while before she was as readily recognized in the United States as in the United Kingdom.

The Best of Suzi Quatro on Disky is a fairly solid collection of Suzi's early rockers. Leading off with the furious one-two punch of "Can the Can" and "48 Crash," the pace is fast and wild from beginning to end with a couple of ballads for breath near the end. Quatro doesn't get the credit she deserves for being a female hard rock pioneer; in the U.S. she is seen as Leather Tuscadero from Happy Days first and foremost, with her recording career an afterthought at best. That is a shame because Suzi could flat out rock. With the help of Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn's songwriting and production, she created a body of work that is almost equal to Joan Jett's.
