The "screaming" trumpeter, a Canadian brassman and bandleader who got his start with Stan Kenton's orchestra before a storied solo career. He was noted for being able to play accurately in a remarkably high register, and for his bands, which served as stepping stones for up-and-coming talent.

This album finds the band playing solid jazz tunes….Arrangers Tom Garling, Marko Marcinko, Chip McNeill, et al. have caught the brassy Ferguson style perfectly. Their charts (most are quite challenging) and the spirit and expert technique of the ensemble and soloists make this an enjoyable trip indeed. Even at the age of 67, Maynard Ferguson shows on this CD that he could still belt out the high notes.

Vocalist Mighty Sam McClain is a specialist in Southern soul-blues, one of the original masters from the 1960s, when the music enjoyed its peak popularity. This is a marvelous album that reminds you of classic soul and carries on the tradition of vocalists like Bobby Bland, Solomon Burke, Otis Clay, James Carr and Otis Redding, Al Green and the Memphis Stax sound without sounding retro or dated. McClain has a commanding voice, writes great songs, and can assemble a fine band. "Mighty" is right.

Review (AMG)
Live albums have a tendency to be sterile, multi-tracked, overdubbed affairs that aren't a lot different than their studio equivalents. Low avoids that trap with One More Reason to Forget, which was recorded in a church using room microphones, thereby capturing the sound not only of the band but of the room – an old church – as well. One More Reason's track listing is a testament to Low's ability to change gears during a set. Sure, most of the songs are quite slow and pretty, but based on these seven tracks, they can hardly be called samey. From the purely pretty ("Venus") to the outright experimental and intense (the 17-minute "Do You Know How to Waltz?"), the band proves that it can more than make up for lack of tempo changes with a group of lovely, vibrant songs performed to perfection.
