Essential: A masterpiece of progressive rock music.
Van Der Graaf's frontman Peter Hammill's first solo-album comes right at my favorite moment of VdGG history. The sound of the band of the '69-'71 period was especially well put onto record by producer Mark Anthony, whose absence in later years in de studio would be a disadvantage to the band in my opinion. I just love that soulfull sound with the pastoral reverbs and classic- rock organs of 'H to He' (1970). Moreover, Peter Hammill's voice sounded best in this period in my opinion. Soulfull, free, deep, emotional - but not too troubled.
Clannad started out like many traditional folk bands of Ireland; its early material for Gael-Linn Records could be considered traditional Irish folk, and most of the lyrics were in Irish. However, the band's signing to RCA Records and its 1982 hit "Theme From Harry's Game" catapulted it to the top of the UK pop charts. Most importantly, Clannad was one of the first Irish bands to truly delve into ambient music, an idiom that may be the modern counterpart to the traditional slow air.
In my humble opinion this is the last and best Cabrel's album, three important songs appear in this: "Répondez-Moi" "Carte Postale" "Chandelle"
The melancholy title track that opens Carte Postale announces that Francis Cabrel will not be content to churn out bottomless clone albums.

Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music.
At the age of 13 prog rock was too complex for me, I couldn't bear the sound of YES, ELP and KING CRIMSON that I heard from the older brothers of some friends. But at the age of 15 I listened to "Live" from GENESIS and then I got interested. I was mesmerized by the cover picture with the dark figure wearing a strange red box on his head.
