As samplers go, this is one of the best. An excellent cross section of artists from the Stockfish catalog. I am especially taken by the cuts from Alan Taylor ("The Beat Hotel" in particualr) and Chris Jones. Sonics are clean, clear and crisp, with an exceptional sense of timbre. I've purchased a few of the CD's of the artists I've heard on this sampler, and I'm here to tell you, they sound great to - though they can't beat these SACD tracks.
Since the release of Stockfisch's first SACD sampler, the audiophile label has recorded and published many new Stockfisch productions including well known artists of the singer/songwriter scene as well as so called 'insider tips'. Listen to 15 new tracks, 70 minutes on this Hybrid-SACD! Just like Vol. 1, this second Stockfisch collection Closer To The Music Vol. 2 offers on its 15 individual tracks a wide musical variety. These recordings, as any listener will experience, exemplify once again the Stockfisch philosophy: closer to the music!
And again this 4th compilation offers both a selection from current releases and presentations of artists and albums that will be released by Stockfisch Records in the next months. Belonging to these forecasts you can hear two tracks from the new Paul Stephenson album, who already had recorded two CDs for Stockfisch. Furthermore one song by Zebra Sommerwind, the trio around Fiedelmichel-doyen Thomas Kagermann, featuring German (folk-)songs in contemporary arrangements.
2013 marks the 20th anniversary of Us3’s multi-million selling debut album “Hand On The Torch”. In honour of that, the new Us3 album “The Third Way (Hand On The Torch Vol II)” marks a return to the classic Us3 sound, with 5 of the 14 tracks containing interpolations of a number of well-known jazz standards, including Dizzy Gillespie’s “Manteca”, Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing”, and Lee Morgan’s “The Sidewinder”.
MC duties are taken by 3 former Us3 collaborators; Akil Dasan (“Schizophonic” & “Say What!?”), KCB (“Broadway & 52nd”), and Tukka (“Hand On The Torch”). A video for the lead track “Never Go Back” can be seen on the Us3videos channel on YouTube (from September 16th).
Just as it’s four predecessors did, the compilation „closer to the music Vol.5 “ provides an aural overview of the latest and the forthcoming Stockfisch productions - this time for 2015. More than 79 minutes of unusual recordings and fascinating music.
James Arthur is the 2012 X factor winner, with his debut single ‘Impossible’ becoming the biggest X factor winner’s song of all time. The single kept the #1 chart spot for 3 weeks, won platinum in the UK and was nominated for a Brit Award. His self-titled first album, featuring the No.2 single “You’re Nobody Until Somebody Loves You” and collaborations with Naughty Boy and Emeli Sande, was certified Gold in the UK after worldwide sales of over 400,000. However, months after his debut single and album was finally usurped from the top spot, the struggles of the limelight became too much for the singer and in his own words, he “cracked”. Fast forward 2 years, James is a very different animal in 2016 and managed to process his experiences on his new album BACK FROM THE EDGE, which will be released 28th October. BACK FROM THE EDGE’s first single SAY YOU WON’T LET GO, released September 9, is the sound board for what has been a turbulent career, still very much in its infancy. Apart from the deeply emotional ballad, the album presents many songs with a personal experience.
