Gentle Giant's third album (and their first self-produced effort, Tony Visconti having run the sessions on the two previous records) was another advance, this time in the direction of a harder rock sound – everything sounds turned up here, especially the guitars, the bass, and the electronic keyboards…

Formed at the dawn of the progressive rock era in 1969, Gentle Giant seemed poised for a time in the mid-'70s to break out of its cult-band status, but somehow never made the jump. Somewhat closer in spirit to Yes and King Crimson than to Emerson, Lake & Palmer or the Nice, their unique sound melded hard rock and classical music, with an almost medieval approach to singing. This UK four CD collection from the British Prog Rock band that rounds up all of their Chrysalis albums with bonus tracks including John Peel sessions, 7" mixes, live tracks, 'B' sides and more.

Gentle Giant - In a Glass House (1973)

I have 18 other titles of Gentle Giant albuns… but I am too lazzy today. So, heard this one, be nice and mybe I post the others in a near future

Gentle Giant's fifth studio album has an aura about it in the progressive rock community. This 1973 record captured the band as they were peaking, but because it was not released in the United States by their record label at the time (Columbia), it became a highly prized import and gained a legendary stature. Furthermore, In a Glass House has been only intermittently available as a CD; most recently, a nice remastered package with bonus live material was released (as an import) for limited runs in 2000 and 2004, and the disc finally got a US release when reissued in 2005. But while this title's rarity probably has something to do with the extent to which it is praised, I do think that it is a great album that earns just about all of it on its own merits…

The music of Syzygy is an overwhelming experience. It is still possible to make fresh and powerful music which has its roots in the seventies. Combining elements of old school progressive rock (Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant and ELP,) with modern production values, The Allegory of Light is a complex yet melodic collection of songs that will truly make a prog fan happy. The three musician’s are skillful enough to play the complex and up-tempo material of the band. At one point the guitar of Carl Baldassarre sounds like Fripp and the next time you think you are listening to Steve Howe. The same story goes for Sam Giunta. One minute he sounds like Keith Emerson, the next minute you think of Kerry Minnear (Gentle Giant) or Ryo Okumoto (Spock’s Beard)…

An elegant symphonic/romantic prog band, who take a lot of their inspiration from Gentle Giant. Try to imagine a Quebecois version of Gentle Giant, with a female singer, then you pretty much know exactly what these guys sound like. This band blend syncopated prog passages with Gentle Giant-like vocalizations/acappela accents and Grobschnitt-like charm prowess. Instrumentation utilized is quite vast actually and includes flutes, vibraphones, drums, bass, violin, guitar and piano. The musicianship here is fantastic with nice warm tones and offers excellent speaker separation.
