Heavy Metal, Hard Rock | FLAC (Image)+cue, log, covers | 36:34 min | 271 MB
Label: earMusic | Tracks: 10 | Rls.date: 2016

Dee Snider has always gleamed as a solo artist. “We Are The Ones” his newest creation, was produced by no other than Grammy, Emmy and Oscar-winner Damon Ranger. “We Are The Ones” crackles with modern energy, from the call-to-arms manifesto of 'Rule the World' to the anthemic bonding of 'So What' (complete with, yes, a string section) to the intensely synth-driven 'Close to You' to the thematically soaring 'Superhero' (a song tailor-made for running over the end credits of the next Marvel or DC movie blockbuster if ever there was one) — plus a vibrant, stripped-down version of his best-known song, 'We're Not Gonna Take It.' “We Are The Ones” opens an exciting new chapter in the ongoing, never-ending glorious saga of Dee Snider. And that's how you come to rule the world.

All the Things We Are is a bit unusual in the Dave Brubeck discography. The pianist is heard in a quartet with altoist Lee Konitz on "Like Someone in Love" and a brief "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," with avant-garde giant Anthony Braxton (also on alto) featured on "In Your Own Sweet Way," while both Konitz and Braxton team up for "All the Things You Are." In addition, the Brubeck Trio (with bassist Jack Six and drummer Alan Dawson) plays an exquisite and frequently exciting 21-minute, five-song "Jimmy Van Heusen Medley." A total success, this "experimental" Brubeck set is highly recommended.

While drummer Kendrick Scott's namesake outfit—Kendrick Scott Oracle—has been around in some form since 2006, it's a band that's really come into its own in the last few years. With the arrival of Conviction (Concord Records, 2013), Scott made a major statement on a high-visibility label; jazz listeners and critics both took note. With We Are The Drum, his debut for the storied Blue Note imprint, he raises the bar even higher, melding complex ideas and completely accessible sounds.

It was actually better than I was expecting it to be, because you don't usually expect much from drug dealing comedies. The plot in this was actually pretty clever, and to be honest Will Poulter's character Kenny really makes the entire movie. He played it so well, and he was perfectly awkward and strange, it was hilarious. It was definitely one of the best comedies I've seen in a while. Sure it did have some corny moments that are unrealistic, but I overall enjoyed the movie.a family holiday.
